Summer of 2015 – Matt Markworth
The way it generally goes at Hermosa Creek is you hike all day and average one significant tree per day. I was beginning to wonder, but fortunately today was an “average” day.
I hiked all the way up to South Fork, and on the way back spotted an outstanding blue spruce. It becomes the second tallest-known blue spruce across its range and the second tallest-known tree in Colorado. The tree stands 170.1′ tall with a girth of 9’3″.
